SUMMARY:YOLO: AI Modeling for Beginners
DESCRIPTION:Are you ready to take your first steps in AI modeling? This is a fully online crash course into AI modeling using the YOLO (You Only Look Once) method! YOLO stands for “You Only Look Once.” The YOLO method is designed for real time object detection\, mimicking the human visual system. This program is fast and accurate with applications extending far beyond what was once thought possible with artificial intelligence. \nRequirements \nYou must register with a gmail account. \nSign Up NOW: yolo-ai-modeling-for-beginners-tickets-928078075507

SUMMARY:Pet Project: A Hackathon for Animal Welfare
DESCRIPTION:Join T-REX and leading animal welfare organizations for a hackathon to promote animal welfare and potentially impact the lives of thousands of dogs\, cats\, and other animals! Using data sets and other assets\, you will be tasked to develop tools that could help combat the mistreatment of animals (puppy mills\, dog fighting\, etc.) in the state of Missouri. This hackathon will be hosted online via Discord\, with final presentations at T-REX on July 20th. If you’re a university student or an industry professional\, Register Now to take on this challenge and make an impact in Missouri! \nPuppy mills and animal welfare are a major issue in Missouri. The Humane Society of the United States has called out the state for 12 years in a row as the worst in the country for this issue (click here for report). HB2265 and HB1826 (click here for bill details) are currently in the Missouri Legislature and have been called out by organizations in the state as doing little to actually address the issue.

SUMMARY:Apache Airflow Certification Course
DESCRIPTION:This is a 9-week\, in-person course: The first 4 weeks will cover material for the Airflow Fundamentals certificate\, while the last 5 weeks will cover material for the DAG Authoring certificate. Classes will be every Thursday from 6pm to 8pm\, beginning on July 11th. \nCourse Description: \nThis 9-week comprehensive course is designed to prepare participants for Apache Airflow certifications\, focusing on the Astronomer Airflow 101 and DAG Authoring certifications. Ideal for data engineers\, data scientists\, and IT professionals\, this course offers a robust curriculum combining theoretical knowledge with practical application\, ensuring a thorough understanding of Apache Airflow. \nWhat is Apache Airflow? \nApache Airflow is an open-source platform used to programmatically author\, schedule\, and monitor workflows. It allows users to define workflows as Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) of tasks\, providing powerful tools to manage and automate data pipelines. Airflow is widely used for ETL processes\, business operations\, infrastructure management\, and MLOps\, offering a scalable and flexible solution for complex workflows. \nRequirements: \n• Proficiency in Python \n• Comfort with Command Line Interface (CLI) \n• Laptop \n• Docker \nCourse Outline: \nWeeks 1-4: Airflow 101 Certification \n• Week 1: Introduction to Apache Airflow \n• What is Airflow? \n• What is a DAG? \n• Example Use Cases \n• ETL \n• Business Operations \n• Infrastructure Management \n• MLOps \n• Architecture/How It Works \n• Week 2: Setting Up CLI and Exploring the User Interface \n• Setting Up CLI \n• User Interface \n• Looking at DAGs \n• Connections \n• Variables \n• DAG Overview \n• Parameters \n• Resources \n• Academy \n• Docs \n• Registry \n• Ask Astro \n• Week 3: DAGs 101 \n• First DAG Walkthrough \n• Scheduling \n• Operators \n• Connections \n• Xcoms \n• Variables \n• Sensors \n• Week 4: Scheduling Deep Dive \n• All the Dates and Times \n• Cron vs. Timedelta vs. Custom Timetables \n• Idempotence and Determinism \n• Backfilling and Catchup \nWeeks 5-9: DAG Authoring Certification \n• Week 5: Applying Business Logic \n• Branching \n• Grouping Tasks \n• Trigger Rules \n• Templating \n• Task Priority \n• Week 6: TaskFlow API \n• Xcoms \n• TaskFlow API \n• Week 7: Advanced Dependency Management \n• Branching \n• Trigger Rules \n• cross_downstream() and chain() \n• ExternalTaskSensor \n• TriggerDagRunOperator \n• Week 8: Optimization \n• Dynamic Tasks \n• Parallelism\, DAG_Concurrency\, and Max_Active_Runs_Per_DAG \n• Pools and Queues \n• Async Operators \n• Week 9: Reliability and Maintenance \n• Retries \n• SLAs \n• Timeouts \nLearning Outcomes: \nBy the end of this course\, participants will: \n• Have a solid understanding of Apache Airflow and its components. \n• Be able to develop\, deploy\, and manage workflows using Airflow. \n• Understand best practices and advanced techniques for DAG authoring. \n• Be prepared to take the Astronomer Airflow 101 and DAG Authoring certification exams. \nEmbark on this journey to master Apache Airflow and achieve certification\, enhancing your skills and career prospects in the data engineering field.

SUMMARY:Sustainability Lab
DESCRIPTION:Sustainability Labs are hubs of collaboration for people working on\, learning about\, and advocating for sustainability. At this Lab\, earthday365 will be sharing about the environmental benefits of reuse and the effort to build a ‘wash hub’ in St. Louis\, to expand the availability of reusable cups and serviceware. SUMMARY:AgriTech Thursdays
DESCRIPTION:  \nAgriTech Thursdays is a monthly\, after-work event focused on agricultural technologies research and collaboration in the St Louis region. At each event\, one company or researcher gives a short\, 15 minute talk on an existing or solved research problem of their choosing and how it fits into the wider agricultural technologies landscape. \nJUNE:\nThis month’s speaker is Dr. Ratan Chopra\, Vice President of Research at CoverCress. For several decades now\, model plants have been studied and gene function has been characterized using T-DNA mutants and/or over-expression strategies. These studies have been critical to delineate biosynthesis pathways and gene functions but limit our understanding of phenotypes that come from partial changes in gene expression. It is often desirable to change the expression of a gene without losing gene or enzyme activity to maintain plant fitness in field conditions\, but discovery of such alleles takes several years and and can be expensive. They will be presenting some CRISPR-Cas9 mediated gene editing examples of novel phenotypes and how these phenotypes provide solutions for agronomic challenges in pennycress.
