SUMMARY:STL Global PetCare Innovation District Meetup - Series Kickoff
DESCRIPTION:St Louis is home to one of the richest PetCare ecosystem’s in the world — an ecosystem long overdue to be connected\, activated and unleashed — an ecosystem possessing tremendous potential to realize St Louis as a leading growth hub in the nearly $400B global PetCare industry\, an industry that includes a PetTech sector forecast to grow from $12B to $24B by 2030.\n\n\nWhen:  January 13\, 4-5pm (1st in an ongoing meetup series planned every 2nd Tuesday at 4pm in 2026)\n\n\nWhere:  T-REX\, 5th floor\n\n\nWho:  Anyone ready to actively shape the future of a booming global PetCare industry — entrepreneurs\, founders\, investors\, corporates\, community/civic organizations and more…\n\n\nWhat:  This isn’t a pitch or a panel — it’s the 1st in a series of monthly working conversations focused on activating the potential that exists in St Louis’ unique density of largely disconnected PetCare companies\, capabilities\, knowledge and expertise. These meetups will be a catalyst in connecting and activating our long-disconnected PetCare ecosystem and making St Louis the go-to place for entrepreneurs to start and grow new PetCare businesses\, for investors to fuel that growth and for existing PetCare corporates to find meaningful partnerships/investments and for players in other industries to realize the value of their brand’s in PetCare ventures.\n\n\nDid you know that there are more than 30 high-signal PetCare\, PetTech\, VetCare\, VetTech companies whose HQ’s are in the St Louis region?  Our region is unique in PetCare\, possessing 1) anchor gravity\, 2) execution infrastructure\, 3) real-world care knowledge\, capability and access and 4) an active community of emerging brands\, startups and investors.  Other regions may have 1-2 of these.  St Louis has all of them.  This reinforces that St Louis is not an emerging ecosystem — it’s an under-activated one that doesn’t need to be created\, just engaged.

SUMMARY:Geosaurus Unleashed: Powered by Woolpert
DESCRIPTION:Powered by Woolpert: Geosaurus Unleashed is back on Wednesday\, Feb. 12th at 4-5pm on T-REX’s 4th Foor!🦖 Don’t miss out on networking\, free food and free drinks 🍻 Join us for Part 2\, and the final edition of our Pet Project Hackathon series. \nThis month’s presenter is Rohan Keenoy\, one of the creators of “Paw Print Surveillance\,” a Chrome extension that helps you shop for dogs safely. This plugin is a full stack application with reporting resources\, geo visualizations\, and clustering algorithms that help predict if your puppy came from a puppy mill. This unique presentation is one that you won’t want to miss! Your pets will thank you for it! 🐕🐈 \nDid you know Missouri is the puppy mill capital of the U.S.? Last July\, T-REX hosted a one-of-a-kind hackathon around animal welfare\, specifically puppy mills. In collaboration with organizations like Bailing Out Benji and Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation we provided participants with strong data and problem statements to help them come up with tools to help these organizations fight for our dogs and cats. The results the hackathon were so incredible\, we picked two groups to present at Geosaurus Unleashed: one group in October and one in February.

DESCRIPTION:TOPIC: GIS in Indian Country – Learn how Native American communities within the U.S. are using geospatial technologies to protect the past and plan for the future. The concept of geospatial knowledge is deeply rooted in tribal history\, which goes back thousands of years. Since the inception of modern GIS platforms\, tribes have been using geospatial technologies to protect historical landscapes\, cultural and natural resources. Today\, geospatial technologies are being used to plan for sustainable tribal growth and development while managing data for an effective government. \nSPEAKER: Garet Couch\, GISP\, is a citizen of the Shawnee Tribe and is the President/CEO of the National Tribal Geographic Information Support Center (NTGISC)\, also known as Tribal GIS\, is a Native American led 501(c)(3) organization that provides geospatial information systems (GIS) technical assistance and support to Tribal governments in their utilization of GIS to inform decision-making in the stewardship of Tribal lands and resources\, as well as the health and well-being of American Indian and Alaska Native peoples. Tribal GIS also serves as a professional platform for Tribal personnel\, Tribal members\, faculty\, and students at Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) and supporting organizations to share professional forward-thinking views\, progressive knowledge\, and continuous education within a community of active GIS users serving Native American communities.

SUMMARY:Pet Project: A Hackathon for Animal Welfare
DESCRIPTION:Join T-REX and leading animal welfare organizations for a hackathon to promote animal welfare and potentially impact the lives of thousands of dogs\, cats\, and other animals! Using data sets and other assets\, you will be tasked to develop tools that could help combat the mistreatment of animals (puppy mills\, dog fighting\, etc.) in the state of Missouri. This hackathon will be hosted online via Discord\, with final presentations at T-REX on July 20th. If you’re a university student or an industry professional\, Register Now to take on this challenge and make an impact in Missouri! \nPuppy mills and animal welfare are a major issue in Missouri. The Humane Society of the United States has called out the state for 12 years in a row as the worst in the country for this issue (click here for report). HB2265 and HB1826 (click here for bill details) are currently in the Missouri Legislature and have been called out by organizations in the state as doing little to actually address the issue.

SUMMARY:AgriTech Thursdays
DESCRIPTION:  \nAgriTech Thursdays is a monthly\, after-work event focused on agricultural technologies research and collaboration in the St Louis region. At each event\, one company or researcher gives a short\, 15 minute talk on an existing or solved research problem of their choosing and how it fits into the wider agricultural technologies landscape. \nJUNE:\nThis month’s speaker is Dr. Ratan Chopra\, Vice President of Research at CoverCress. For several decades now\, model plants have been studied and gene function has been characterized using T-DNA mutants and/or over-expression strategies. These studies have been critical to delineate biosynthesis pathways and gene functions but limit our understanding of phenotypes that come from partial changes in gene expression. It is often desirable to change the expression of a gene without losing gene or enzyme activity to maintain plant fitness in field conditions\, but discovery of such alleles takes several years and and can be expensive. They will be presenting some CRISPR-Cas9 mediated gene editing examples of novel phenotypes and how these phenotypes provide solutions for agronomic challenges in pennycress.
