SUMMARY:Geospatial User Group - Third Wednesdays
DESCRIPTION:On Wed\, Aug 19\, don’t miss GÜG (Geospatial Users Group)\, for the topic\, “Hot Streets\, Tall Buildings: Urban Heat Analysis and a 3D St. Louis.” \nDonivan James (Saint Louis University) and Arthur Crawford (Esri) team up for a two-part look at how we’re mapping St. Louis in new ways. Heat analysis in urban St. Louis is crucial for understanding and mitigating the impacts of the urban heat island effect\, which can lead to higher temperatures\, increased energy consumption\, and health risks for residents. By creating detailed 3D models of the urban environment\, researchers can simulate how different surfaces and vegetation interact with sunlight and heat. These 3D representations allow for more accurate mapping of shaded areas\, heat absorption\, and airflow patterns throughout the city. Incorporating 3D representations of the urban environment into heat analysis supports better decision-making for urban planning\, such as identifying priority areas for tree planting\, optimizing building materials\, and designing green spaces to reduce heat stress. This approach ultimately helps create a more comfortable\, sustainable\, and resilient urban environment for St. Louis. \nSpeakers: \n\nDonivan James — PhD student\, Saint Louis University\nArthur Crawford — Senior GIS Engineer\, Esri (ArcGIS Living Atlas Team / Community Maps Program)\n\n\n\n\nGeospatial User Group (GÜG) is every third Wednesday\, from 3:30 – 5:30pm CST! Enjoy an impactful presentation as well as free drinks\, and networking. This collaborative meetup is for all geospatial users
