SUMMARY:Leveraging Microwave Data for Real World Solutions (online)
DESCRIPTION:About this event\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCan we tell if there is a drought or flood in an area of interest\, using historical (time series) soil water content (SWC) data and can we predict future droughts? In this workshop\, you’ll learn how to condition and exploit ambiguous and imperfect data to derive meaningful and actionable insights to answer these questions! \nRegister Here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/leveraging-microwave-data-for-real-world-solutions-tickets-951110235317?aff=oddtdtcreator \nThis workshop three hours long and will be on two separate days: August 13th at 9am and August 14th at 1pm\, and will be held completely online! It will be lead by Karen Kowalewsky and Aiden Mornhinweg from Riverside Research. \nLearning Outcomes \n\nProcess and integrate microwave data\nCreate a soil water content map\nAssess the results of the soil water content map\nVerify and validate accuracy of soil water content maps and drought assessment\n\nTheme \nProcessing\, Conditioning\, Exploitation \nSkills-to-Know \nWhile this is a new learning experience and only basic math skills are required for this workshop\, one or more of the following skills could provide a more seamless experience: \nSatellite Imagery\, remote sensing\, and GIS \nTech Requirements \nHardware \nComputer \nSoftware \nQGIS – this is a free program and can run on any OS. Downloading QGIS: Download QGIS. We are using QGIS 3.38.0 ‘Grenoble’ for this workshop. Slightly older versions should work too. \n4 Gigs of storage on your device or cloud for data \nItinerary \nMorning Session \n9am: Event Start & Introductions \n9:15am: Part 1 Seminar (Karen) \n9:45am: Part 2 Case Study Interactive Demo (Aidan) \n11:45am-12pm: Feedback/Wrap-Up \nEvening Session \n1pm: Event Start & Introductions \n1:15pm: Part 1 Seminar (Karen) \n1:45pm: Part 2 Case Study Interactive Demo (Aidan) \n3:45-4pm: Feedback/Wrap-Up
